One of the things many of our clients are nervous about is shopping online. It's a common fear that money might be spent by mistake or that bank details will be compromised! We have designed this simple demonstration to give you a bit of practice and put your mind at ease before you have a go for real!

NOTE: Our clients get confused by the use of the word 'account' when asked to register with a website. This makes many think it's a financial commitment....but it isn't.. Try to think of an account on a website as nothing more than your own personal locker which you will keep your information in! Instead of using a key to get into your online locker you use a username and password. You will have many lockers on lots of different websites. When a site asks you for your email address and password this is NOT the password you use to get into your emails! You need to give your email address but use a different password for that particular site. DO NOT give your email password to anyone.

Note1: During most of your online shopping experiences you will be confronted by a login facility similar to this...depending on the website, it might appear when you start to shop or more commonly before you pay. Don't panic you still won't be spending any money yet! Have a go at putting your details into this form!

Note 2: You WILL need an email address if you start shopping online. To set up a very simple email address got to www.myguide.net.

Note 3: Username is quite often your email address. If it doesn't ask for your email address use something you will remember like your initials and year of birth or a pets name eg. cgf1942 or rover50 (always lowercase and no spaces)

Note 4: Password: Use a word you will remember followed by a number eg. popcorn99 or dosey007 (always lowercase and no spaces) You will be asked to confirm it to ensure you haven't typed it incorrectly! Your password will always show up as a series of dots to protect it from prying eyes - but not for this practice.

Note 5: Good! You have finished registering, now click 'next' to go into the shop or the checkout (depending on the design of the website you are shopping on).

Note 5: Don't worry if you forget either your username or password, the website will email you details!
